• a disciple of Vidal de la Blache, elaborated his ideas about human geography
• also transmitted the Vidalian tradition to other countries
• was a leading exponent of systematic geography, emphasized the study of surface features of Earth surface
• known for his work, Geographic Humaine: Essai de Classification,
• in his Human Geography, Bruhnes discoursed the facts like spatial distribution of human races, social, political and historical facts
• sought to give the geography of man a clear disciplinary basis and tried to identify the scope and method of human geography
• opined that nature is not mandatory but permissive, physical and cultural factors, therefore, need to be taken into account for undertaking a comprehensive study of a region
