A Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) refers to an undergraduate degree in the arts, A Bachelor of Arts degree (also known as an Arts degree) allows students to choose from a variety of arts disciplines and can prepare them for careers in various fields. Students usually choose their concentration after the first two years of study, then complete coursework in their chosen field of study while continuing to take liberal arts courses until they graduate.

A bachelor’s degree (BA) in an arts field like art Hindi, English, Sanskrit, History, Ancient Indian History Culture and Archaeology, Political Science, Economics, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Geography, Home Science, Sociology, Mathematics, Anthropology, Statistics, Defence and Strategic Studies, Drawing and Painting and music composition, or theatre typically requires completion of 120 credits. These courses are generally divided into general education requirements (usually lasting one to two years), distribution requirements and major-specific requirements. You’ll take classes in your major and related fields, as well as study general topics like writing, speaking and critical thinking skills. Completing BA programs usually takes between three and four years full-time. If you choose to attend part time you can complete it over six to seven years; however more than likely your course load will suffer as you try to balance school with family and work obligations. Most BA degrees require that you write a thesis at some point during your undergraduate career. The purpose of the thesis is to demonstrate your ability to conduct independent research. In addition, many universities require that students pass comprehensive exams in their major area of study before graduation. The purpose of these exams is for students to show they have mastered their chosen field through classroom instruction and independent research.

A bachelor’s degree in arts can open up many career options, as it gives you flexibility to work in different sectors. You may choose to work in research, teaching, broadcasting or creative industries such as fashion and marketing. Of course, you may also opt for an entirely different career path that allows you to continue using your creative and analytical skills. This could be journalism or media production; careers like teaching; business management; and information technology are just some of those that come with an arts background. Most bachelor’s degrees can provide general entry into any graduate program; however those with high grades might receive automatic admission into specific masters’ programs if they wish to pursue further study.

- BA Jobs and Salaries

According to data from Georgetown University’s Center on Education and Workforce, approximately 34% of all 2014 BA holders held positions in education, including teaching assistantships and postsecondary teaching positions. Another 32% of BA holders worked in business-related positions; 20% had jobs in social services, non-profits, and government. The remaining 10% were employed in healthcare, engineering, law enforcement/security/protection, transportation/moving services (i.e., taxi drivers), customer service and food preparation & serving related work.
 
Salaries for BA vary by industry and location. In general, however, BA earn between 10-15 lakh per year while working their way through school. After graduation, salaries increase significantly—BA graduates can expect to make between 10-15 lakh per year depending on their industry and location. Business majors fare particularly well after graduation—the median salary for recent grads was 10 lakh per year in 2013! And while they earned less than business majors ( 10 lakh) that same year, English majors still did quite well with a median salary of 8 lakh per year!
